Report on the workshop “Best practices in Research Data Management”

By scholarly_adm on November 3, 2025

On Monday, 23rd October 2025, The Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link) successfully conducted the workshop titled “Good practices in research data management”. The workshop was implemented during the 31st Panhellenic Academic Libraries Conference, and is part of the educational initiatives of HEAL-Link within the framework of the European project PATTERN, through which the Consortium develops and offers the educational program “PATTERN: QuickStart to Open Science”.

The workshop, with a duration of 90 minutes, focused on Research Data Management and the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). It presented fundamental concepts, methodologies, and tools that support organisation, storage, and sharing of research data in a responsible and transparent manner.

It was addressed to early-career researchers with limited prior experience in the field of data management. More than 20 participants actively engaged in interactive and group activities aimed at fostering practical understanding of the fundamental stages of designing and documenting a Data Management Plan (DMP).

The workshop methodology combined brief presentations with multimedia materials (slides, materials), as well as practical group activities that served as a stimulus for constructive discussions and the exchange of experiences. Participants had the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences at the various stages of Research Data Management (RDM), while also working collaboratively on a real research project scenario, identifying the data management practices that were implemented and assessing their compliance with the FAIR principles.

The workshop concluded with a concise presentation of the main findings and a brief evaluation by the participants. The activity made a substantial contribution to enhancing understanding and practical application of the Open Science principles, empowering participants to systematically and responsibly manage their data.
